The Deep Dive explained

An essential part of the services I provide, is a strategic deep dive.

The challenge from the client’s perspective:

You’ve worked with your team on defining strategic projects and executing against hard deadlines. Unfortunately, the results are not what you expected. The actions seem reactive and not proactive. Too much focus is on execution but the strategic goals and reasoning behind priorities are not clear. There may be doubts if the right direction is chosen. Are you growing your brand and/or services to their full potential? Getting a multi-disciplinary team in from a creative or strategic consultancy agency is not something you feel comfortable with. You need someone that can observe, define the way forward based on your wishes and guide the company forward. Connecting the dots was never so easy and can be done within a few weeks.

The process:

The Deep dive is a straightforward (+/- 2 weeks runtime) process that connects the company’s challenges and objectives, with a concrete set of insights and action plans based on my experience. With the definition and quantification in place, a high-level roadmap can be created. This tool makes it easier to discuss and agree on all ingredients for a successful working relationship. Often the solution lies in a mix:

  • A set of projects (short-term)
  • Workstreams (plotted on a timeline with clear deliverables)
  • Ongoing activities where the team moves in weekly operational meets

Within 2 weeks and with limited involvement, your company is reignited and back on track.

The deliverables:

I am focused on your progress. The time I spend on your challenges leads to concrete insights and actions that can be worked on by myself and/or your team. All deliverables are yours and will remain that. Should you decide to work stand-alone in the new direction, I am always available to coach/support.

Depending on the specific case, a set of working methods and files are set up / worked out in detail. Sometimes a simple 15/25-pager presentation does the trick. More often a combination of elements is going to be delivered to you for future reference.

Elements  may include (based on relevance):

  • Digital collaboration – Mindmap – with all relevant thoughts and areas of action mapped out
  • Presentation  – Keynote/PPT
  • Miro boards  – Online, co-creation working canvas with graphic capabilities
  • Written documents (e.g. word)

The Deep Dive is structured to optimize results and minimize disruption to the team.

  1. Remote intake  > client delivers relevant desktop research material
  • Strategy presentation
  • Marketing material
  • Brand guides
  • P&L insights for relevant services/products
  1. Hands-on intake
  • 1 / 2 meetings with relevant team members
  1. Working session 1 (in person)
  • First insights are shared and discussed
  • Exercises to flush out clients’ wishes (e.g. brand and values)
  1. Working session 2 (often digital and when applicable)
  • Roadmap and deliverables
  • Exercises to flush out clients’ wishes (e.g. brand and values)
  1. Delivery  (in person)
  • 1  meeting with the final presentation

A quote from a Brand PWRD Media client that did the Deep-dive:

“Mark has helped us greatly in refining our marketing proposition. His conceptual thinking and his process have brought us new ideas.”
